Dear Plano ISD Community:
I am proud to present to you the district’s 2015 Annual Report, “Make Your Mark,” providing a snapshot
of the many ways our 55,000 students and 6,600 employees are making their marks as learners and
leaders in the classroom and beyond.
The Plano ISD Board of Trustees has set two major goals for the district: (1) ensure continued
improvement in student learning; and (2) ensure efficient use of resources. In these pages, you will
see how the district has kept these goals at the forefront of realizing our mission to provide an excellent education for each student.
While remaining good stewards of tax payer dollars, with notably the second lowest tax rate in Collin
County, Plano ISD and its leadership team are committed to maintaining exceptional educational
programs and experiences for students and educators. This is possible through strong connections with
our community in the form of highly engaged parents, dedicated classroom teachers, campus and district
leaders and community partners, all of whom believe in our students and our mission.
In my first year as superintendent, I have enthusiastically learned about Plano ISD’s tradition of
excellence. I made it my professional mission to visit every classroom in every school, meeting great people
who care deeply about the mission of serving children. In my role, I have enjoyed many opportunities to
listen, learn and build relationships in our school district and in our community.
As you will find in this report, our students capture more than their fair share of local, state and national
honors in academics, arts and athletics. We are inspired by these highly accomplished scholars, artists and
athletes, and we are delighted that, through teamwork and partnership, we continue to offer them more
choices regarding what and how they learn. It is no wonder that Plano ISD students far exceed state and
national averages on college entrance exams and that our district’s graduation rate ranks among the highest
in the state.
On behalf of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, our faculty and students, I thank you for taking time to
read this annual report and invite each member of our school community to “make your mark” in the
lives of our students as we empower them to adapt to new learning and career opportunities throughout
their lives; collaborate with, and contribute to the global community; and to be disciplined and creative
in their thinking.
