2. Bid #2007-074 Retail Store Furniture

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Bids for the following items were advertised, received, and opened by the Purchasing Services Department. The appropriate department has evaluated all bids and forwarded their recommendation to Purchasing Services to be reviewed for compliance with Educational Code Section 44.031 and School Board Policy.

This is a compliance bid for non-classroom furniture needed to fill the immediate needs of the District. The furniture being purchased will be used in school lounges, reception areas, conference areas, and any other area that might have furniture needs that could not be met by our current classroom furniture bid vendors. The bid was directed toward local vendors, within a reasonable driving distance of the District, so that the merchandise could be seen and inspected for quality and suitability, before purchasing. This bid establishes discounted pricing and criteria to give principals, office managers, and other district staff the best pricing from local furniture vendors. This is the first year of a renewable bid.

Purchasing Services evaluated the responses. All of the awarded companies meet the specifications and will meet the needs of the District.

Other companies that responded to the bid are either already on other District Catalog Bids that better define their products, or they don't have a retail store located within reasonable traveling distance for District staff. Tab sheet is attached.

Recommendation:

The Administration recommends that this bid be awarded to the following:

The Room Store, Inc.
Plano Office Supply
We Bid Furniture, Inc.
Office Makers Plus
