VIII. Proposal to Eliminate Athletic Participation Fee

Description:

In May of 2003, Plano ISD approved the participation fee for Athletic only. Since the approval of this fee, it has been the goal of the Athletic Department to generate enough revenue in other areas to reduce the participation fee or eliminate the fee completely. The current goal of the athletic department is to eliminate the athletic participation fee for the 2007-08 school year. In order to eliminate the fee, the Athletic Department will share in the responsibility of generating additional revenue to replace much of the $300,000.00 deposited yearly into the PISD general fund from athletic fees. The marketing of scoreboard advertising, game day events, and playoff events will be the areas targeted to generate additional funds.

Recommendation:

Approve recommendation to eliminate fee.
