1. Consideration and possible action regarding approval of reduction in force due to a program change

Description:
The Administration presents the following items for the Board's consideration and
possible action regarding authorization of a reduction in force (RIF).
PROGRAM CHANGE(S): After input from Cabinet members and the applicable department head, the Administration presents information for the Board's consideration and possible action regarding determination that the need for a program change(s) exists requiring the need for a RIF resulting in one or more contract employees being dismissed or their contracts being non-renewed, pursuant to DFF (Local). These program changes include, but are not limited to, the following: A. Change in student teacher ratios; B. Change in student and/or staff schedules; C. Reorganization of central support departments; D. Elimination on non-instructional programs; E. Consolidation of duties and/or responsibilities of central support departments; and F. Redirecting financial resources to direct instructional costs by designating positions for external funding, thereby changing employment status.
The Administration recommends that the Board approve a determination that program changes exist requiring the need for a RIF, resulting in one or more contract employees being dismissed or their contracts being non-renewed, resulting in savings of approximately $90,000 through the RIF, and that the Board direct the Superintendent and his designees to identify employment areas to be affected, all pursuant to DFF (Local).
Recommendation:
Approve reduction in force.

This item represents potential savings of approximately $90,000 through a RIF.
