Board Agenda - May 20, 2008

15. RFQ #2008-023 Architectural Services

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

The last solicitation for architectural services was at the start of the 2004 Bond Program. With the approval of the 2008 Bond Program, it is appropriate to re-evaluate the firms currently being used and to look at other interested firms. Beginning on March 13, 2008, a Request for Qualifications was advertised and notices were sent to firms who had inquired and expressed interest in providing architectural services to the District.

Fifteen responses were received on April 2, 2008. A committee consisting of representatives from Business Services, Purchasing, and Facility Planning and Construction reviewed the submittals independently and developed a list of qualified candidates.

The evaluations were discussed by the committee as a group. It was decided to recommend seven firms. While the firms varied in size, and some had multiple offices, all seven were able to present a strong K-12 experience with their local office. In addition, five of the seven have an extensive history in Plano ISD.

Following acceptance of this List, the firms will be further evaluated to determine which firms have the best fit for a specific project. It is to be understood by these firms that being included on the List does not guarantee they will be awarded projects, just as being awarded one project does not guarantee more. The individual projects will be assigned to the firms that can demonstrate the necessary qualities for that particular project.

RECOMMENDED FIRMS:
Claycomb Associates, Inc., Corgan Associates, Inc., PBK Architects, Inc., Perkins + Will, SHW Group, LLP, VLK Architects, Inc., WRA Architects, Inc.

OTHERS SUBMITTING:
Camargo Copeland Architects, LLP, C.M. Architecture P.A. (CMA), Good Fulton & Farrell Architects, Huckabee & Associates, Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., Solana Design Group, VAI Architects Incorporated, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.

Recommendation:

The administration recommends that the list of recommended firms for Architectural Services be approved for consideration of future construction projects.

Business Impact:

Funding for professional fees is included in the identified Bond Program budgets. No funds are committed or expended, until the individual architect is contracted for a specific project.
