2. Equipment and furnishing purchases

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Listed below are items to be purchased, purchasing method, and estimated expenditure for the 2006-07 school year. The two selected purchasing methods are cooperative purchase through the Texas Association of School Boards, BuyBoard and Sole Source Vendor. Both items were budgeted with 2004 bond initiative funds.

Special Education Services will be purchasing the following Oticon equipment: Tego Power FM amplifiers, Safran FM amplifiers, and Sumo XP FM amplifiers. These units are worn by students with hearing impairments. The Oticon Amigo T20 FM transmitter and the Amigo wireless remote programmer are worn by the teachers to transmit their voices to the students. Oticon is the Sole Source provider of these items.

The District currently has three project sites that require library furnishings: Mathews Elementary-$53,304,Carlisle Elementary-$53,304 and Schell Elementary-$56,895 Staff determined that the Texas Association of School Boards, Buy Board, has several approved catalogs and vendors for library furniture, one being Tesco. The Learning Media Staff and Purchasing Staff determined that Tesco brand furniture is considered to be the District standard for Library Furniture, due to high quality and durability. J & S Equipment submitted a quote and samples for Tesco. References, quality of samples, and past usage of Tesco Furniture, indicate that Tesco offers the best long-term value.

Vendor: Oticon; Purchasing Method: Sole Source; Estimated Amount: $ 28,335.00.
Vendor: J & S Equipment; Purchasing Method: TASB, BuyBoard; Estimated Amount: $ 163,503.00.

Recommendation:
