Board Agenda - February 07, 2006
6. Co-op purchase for library furniture for Shepton High School
Presenter: Richard Matkin
Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required
Time: No time limit
Description:
Proposals for the following items were requested from two TASB Buy Board vendors and opened in the Purchasing Department. The appropriate department has evaluated the proposals and forwarded their recommendation to Purchasing Services to be reviewed for compliance with Education Code 44.031 and School Board Policy.
Local Government Code, Chapter 791, enables the District to purchase goods or services through interlocal agreements without using a formal bid or proposal process. Staff determined that the Texas Association of School Boards, Buy Board, has available several approved catalogs and vendors for library furniture, one being Tesco. The Learning Media Staff and Purchasing Staff determined that Tesco brand furniture is considered to be the District's standard for Library Furniture, due to high quality and durability.
J & S Equipment submitted a proposal and samples for Tesco. For price comparison, a proposal and samples were requested from Indeco for their solid wood library furniture.
The Tesco Brand furniture is more expensive by $12,266.00. References, quality of samples, and past usage of the Tesco Furniture indicates that Tesco offers the best long-term value.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that this purchase be awarded to J & S Equipment.
Business Impact:
Estimated Value: $115,712.00.
