j. Boundary Recommendation for Barron Early Childhood School

Presenter: Jeff Bailey/Mike Collinsworth

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Administration recommends a change in the attendance zone for the Barron Early Childhood School to provide enrollment relief. This change would move Barron Early Childhood students from the Andrews Elementary, Beverly Elementary, Hedgcoxe Elementary, and Rasor Elementary attendance zones to the Pearson Early Childhood School. Early Childhood students are served in a ½ day program.

Barron has grown in enrollment to 730 students. Pearson has 303 students within the Pearson attendance zone, 29 students in the deaf education program, and 26 tuition students who live outside the Pearson attendance zone for a total enrollment of 355. By moving the 107 students in the above mentioned attendance zones, projections show that Barron would have 543 students and Pearson would have 444 students in the 2008-2009 school year.

Current Early Childhood student enrollment at Barron from:
Andrews - 23
Beverly - 29
Hedgcoxe - 18
Rasor - 37
Total - 107

Recommendation:

Approve the change in school assignments for Barron Early Childhood students in the Andrews Elementary, Beverly Elementary, Hedgcoxe Elementary, and Rasor Elementary Schools to the Pearson Early Childhood School. Transportation will be provided via the district's transportation guidelines for Early Childhood schools.
