IX. Teacher Compensation Package for 2006-07

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Description:

The 2006-2007 teacher compensation package is submitted for your consideration and approval. Exempt - Teachers, Librarians, and Nurses: $2,041/year for bachelor's degree teachers; $2,141/year for master's degree teachers; Increase starting salary to $39,800 for bachelor's degree teachers; Increase starting salary to $41,800 for master's degree teachers. Notes: Includes pay range adjustments for only ranges 820 and 830 (primarily teachers). Part of a long term plan to elevate teacher pay for the district to be a top tier district in regard to teacher pay. TASB's report shows that Plano ISD is behind the comparison districts in regards to starting teacher pay. Data indicates that Plano ISD starting teacher pay is 1-3% below market median rates and 3-4% below the top tier districts. Additional equity adjustments will be made at various years of experience to avoid compression of salary. No lump sum amounts are reflected as the adjustments to the pay ranges (minimum, control rate and maximum) allowed all teachers to receive the full raise amount.

Recommendation:

Approve 2006-2007 teacher compensation package.
