Board Agenda - March 21, 2006

5. Library furniture for Huffman Elementary

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Proposals for the following items were requested from two TASB Buy Board vendors and opened in the Purchasing Department. The recommended proposal meets the criteria set forth in the Educational Code Section 44.031. All proposals are reviewed by the appropriate department and recommended to the Purchasing Department for final review and compliance. Local government code, Chapter 791, enables the District to purchase goods or services through interlocal agreements without using a bid process. Staff determined that the Texas Association of School Boards, Buy Board, has available several approved catalogs and vendors for library furniture, one being Tesco. The Learning Media Staff and Purchasing Staff determined that Tesco brand furniture is considered to be the District standard for Library Furniture, due to high quality and durability. J & S Equipment submitted a quote and samples for Tesco. For price comparison, a quote and samples were requested from Indeco, but they declined to submit this quote. References, quality of samples, and past usage of the Tesco Furniture, indicates that Tesco offers the best long-term value.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that this bid be awarded to J & S Equipment.

Business Impact:

Estimated Value: $53,222.00. Budget/Financial Implication: 2004 Bond Funds. Evaluation Criteria: Quality of Goods; Long Term Cost; Vendor Reputation; Best Meets the Needs of the District.
