Description:

Schools across the country play a crucial role in promoting healthy lifestyles for children. Prevention of childhood obesity, poor nutrition, and the promotion of physical activity are goals that the local wellness policy seeks to achieve. Under Section 204 of Public Law108-265-June 2004-Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004: Not later than the first day of the school year beginning after June 30th, 2006, each local education agency participating in a program authorized by the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 shall establish a local wellness policy for schools under the local educational agency. This policy has been reviewed and approved by legal counsel.

Recommendation:

Approve FFA (Local) on first reading.
