1. Bid 2007-014 Carpet and Vinyl Composition Tile

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Bids for the following items were advertised, received, and opened by the Purchasing Services Department. The appropriate department has evaluated all bids and forwarded their recommendation to the Purchasing Services Department to be reviewed for compliance with Educational Code 44.031 and School Board Policy.

This is a compliance bid that will establish approved vendors and pricing for the purchase and installation of floor carpet, wall carpet, cove base, vinyl composition tile (vct), and related items for the District. This is the first year of a renewable bid.

The Facility Services Bid Committee has reviewed and evaluated the bid based on the vendor's past relationship with the District and has determined that the best value is obtained when the carpet supplier is also the installer. The Committee recommends awarding the vendor offering the best value.

Larry's Interiors has held this bid for several years, has provided excellent service, and was the sole bidder for Collins & Aikman floor carpet. Collins & Aikman carpet has been the brand of carpet most often used for both new construction and renovation. Collins & Aikman, while more expensive, offers the best long term value. Staff recommends that Larry's Interiors be awarded as the primary vendor for all items. Gomez Flooring is recommended as the secondary vendor. Both vendors offer discount off of catalog pricing and both are recommended.

Carpet replacement projects are being initiated at multiple locations. These projects will be done through the awarded vendor for this bid at the established unit prices. The work primarily consists of the replacement of carpet, but some areas of vinyl composition tile are also included to achieve a complete installation. The recommended vendor for this work is Larry's Interiors, Inc.

Haggard Middle School - $291,468.99
Miller Elementary School  - $170,781.20

Business Impact:

Estimated Value: $1,500,000.00
