5. Cooperative and Sole Source Purchases

Presenter: Richard Matkin

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Each recommended purchase meets the criteria set forth in the Texas Educational Code Section 44.031 and School Board Policy.

Listed below are items to be purchased, purchasing method, and estimated expenditure for the 2007-08 school year. The selected purchasing methods are cooperative purchases through the Texas Building and Procurement Catalog Information Systems Vendor (CISV), Texas Multiple Awards Schedule (TXMAS), Houston-Galveston Council of Governments (HGAC), and Sole Source Vendors.

1) This sole source purchase is the annual license fee for the network operating system for the District, plus the management software used to deliver and support software on all computers. The Novell license includes the e-mail system, Network Operating System, and the desktop management system.

2) This purchase is a two-year license for our Internet/Content filtering product Websense. This product filters inappropriate content to all computer systems within the district. The vendor offering the best pricing is Business Security Solutions. This purchase is a cooperative purchase with the TBPC using a Catalog Information Systems Vendor.

3) Motorola is the current supplier of radio equipment for the District. This purchase provides for the update of radio equipment being used by Facility Services. This is a cooperative purchase through the Houston-Galveston Council of Governments Cooperative.

4) This sole source purchase is for probes and sensors for all fifth grade classrooms. The probes and sensors are data loggers that record sound, light, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure and will be used for math and science curriculum. Smart School Systems is the only vendor for these items.
