IX. Facilities and Technology Study Task Force

Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: 10 minutes

Description:

In order to quantify the building needs of the District due to student growth, renovation needs, age, and equipment needs including those for technology, the Administration recommends that a task force be created to examine these perceived needs in relation to district practices and programs. In addition, the task force will receive input from appropriate staff and listen to community concerns. PISD was successful in using this approach for the 1996, 2000 and 2004 bond elections. The task force would then present recommendations to the Board of Trustees, which address the issues outlined in the scope of the study.

Attached to this recommendation are 1) the scope and study; 2) guidelines for the charge to the task force; 3) proposed timeline for the task force to complete its work; and 4) suggestions for membership on the task force.

Recommendation:

That the Board establishes a Task Force on Facilities and Technology to study the capital needs of the District, and authorize the administration to develop a list of task force members, who will be willing to serve, and to present that list to the Board for appointment at the September 4, 2007, Board Meeting.

Business Impact:

Bond election expenses and expenses related to informational brochures to be mailed to citizens.
