Attached are two calendars (Calendar 1 and Calendar 1A) that were discussed at the recent work session. Both calendars have a starting date of Monday, August 27, include a two-week winter break and a one-week spring break. The major difference between the two calendars is the week of Thanksgiving. Calendar 1 continues the district's practice of dismissing school Wednesday - Friday while 1A provides a full week of vacation.

Both calendars allow for first semester exams to be given the 2nd week back from winter break. The staff believes this is the most efficient use of instructional time directly following the winter break.

The two main differences are that Calendar 1 allows for the teacher work day to be on Friday, January 18 whereas Calendar 1A necessitates a Saturday, January 19 workday. In addition, Calendar 1 shows Wednesday, June 4 as the last day of school with Thursday and Friday scheduled as bad weather days. Calendar 1A ends school on Thursday, June 5 with Friday and the following Monday as bad weather days.

Staff recommends Calendar 1 based on the ability to eliminate a Saturday teacher work day and avoid going into the second week of June if the district experiences any bad weather in the year.
