Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required

Time: No time limit

Description:

Student code of conduct has been updated to reflect changes in recent legislation and clarification of several offenses. The changes are as follows:
Expellable Offenses
1. Delineated the mandatory and discretionary offenses for expulsions. Added clarification under discretionary expulsion indicating that mandatory expellable offenses are discretionary expellable if committed within 300 ft of school property.
2. Added the following Expulsion offenses as required by recent legislation including discretionary expulsion of registered sex offenders and discretionary expulsion of Title V Felonies against a person.
3. Added clarification language to the discretionary authority to expel for drug and alcohol offenses that are not felonies.
Discipline Alternative Education Placement (DAEP) Offenses
1. Delineated the mandatory and discretionary offenses for placement in a DAEP.
2. Added the requirement to place registered sex offenders in a DAEP for a minimum of a semester as required by recent legislation.
Campus Discipline Management Offenses
1. Changed language to clarify that use of profanity or vulgar, name calling, religious, ethnic or racial slurs, hate language, obscene gestures or derogatory statements is prohibited.
2. Incorporated prohibition on sexual harassment in with other prohibited harassment outlined in FFH (local).
3. Added dating violence as prohibited conduct in accordance with recent legislation.
4. Clarified the prohibition for student possession, use, or distribution of any form of prescription, nonprescription, or homeopathic medication or dietary supplements except as allowed in FFAC (legal). Standards of conduct: Added student expectation that they report to school officials and/or proper authorities threats to safety and security. This has been reviewed and approved by legal counsel.
