Board Agenda - December 11, 2007
1. Shepard/Jackson
Presenter: Jeff Bailey
Purpose: A - Request decision - closure required
Time: 5 minutes
Description:
The district continually looks at boundaries in order to ensure student safety, adjust for program capacity, and to make adjustments to awkward zones. Currently the boundary between Shepard Elementary and Jackson Elementary calls for some students to cross Independence Parkway. The current boundary weaves back and forth across Independence Parkway south of 15th Street and north of Plano Parkway. The recommended boundary change only affects the Shepard and Jackson Elementary campuses. All students in the areas recommended for rezoning will continue through their current feeder system: Wilson MS, Vines HS and PSHS. Five students currently enrolled impacted by the boundary change have the option to remain at their current campus through the completion of their fifth grade year.
Jackson:
2 students currently in 2nd grade
1 student currently in kindergarten
Shepard:
1 student currently in 2nd grade
1 student currently in 1st grade
Siblings not yet enrolled will attend the newly zoned
elementary campus.
Recommendation:
The Board approves Independence Parkway south of 15th Street and north of Plano Parkway as the eastern boundary of Jackson Elementary and the western boundary of Shepard Elementary.
