Foundation Announces Record Revenue & Attendance in 2012

This 16th wintry season, the Ski Plano Lodge once again overtook Southfork Ranch in Parker for a “sold out” Ski Plano event on Saturday, January 28. The casual and fun Ski Plano event is the annual fundraising gala hosted by the Plano ISD Education Foundation. Event proceeds benefit the programs of the Plano ISD Education Foundation for the 55,000 students of Plano ISD. More than 800 guests wore their favorite ski sweaters and jeans, danced the night away to two live bands and browsed the slopes of astonishing auction items.

According to Ski Plano chair Rebecca Egelston-Caso, the Plano ISD Education Foundation’s annual fundraising gala experienced record revenue and attendance. “The Foundation is thrilled with the success of Ski Plano 2012,” said Ms. Egelston-Caso. “At a time in which state legislation has forced budgetary constraints, it is great to see the community come together in support of our students and teachers."

Ms. Egelston-Caso continued, “This was also a special year in that, above the revenue, we also raised additional funds through a special collection to create the Douglas W. Otto Visionary Leadership Fund. The Foundation has designated this fund as a legacy to our superintendent for his masterful direction and expertise as an educator.” Dr. Otto retired on January 31, after serving 17 years as superintendent of schools in Plano ISD.

Honorary emcee for the event was recent Tony Award winner, Broadway actor and proud Plano Senior High School graduate John Benjamin Hickey. John recently won the 2011 Tony Award for the best performance by a featured actor in “The Normal Heart” and is also currently starring in the popular Showtime series “The Big C.”
