The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) assessments are designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills at each tested grade level.
This indicator shows the percent of graduates who were reported as having satisfied the course requirements for the Texas State Board of Education Recommended High School Program or Distinguished Achievement Program. The plans are set forth by the Texas Education Agency.
TMEA sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students' dedication to their musical knowledge and skill. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. More than 1,500 students are selected through a process that begins with more than 55,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 13 ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs). Plano ISD has 4.2 recognized students per thousand enrolled in 9-12 grade.

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test ) and the ACT (American College Testing) are standardized tests for high school achievement and college admissions in the United States.
The Advanced Placement (AP) program allows students to complete college-level studies while still in high school. With 2,905 students taking AP tests for college credit, Plano ISD's AP program is one of the largest in the nation. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a rigorous course of study designed to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary students and to promote international understanding. In 2010, Plano ISD boasted 97 full diploma candidates through its IB program.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is divided into three subtests: critical reading, math and writing. Each subtest is scored between 200 and 800 with a perfect score being 2,400. Plano ISD students scored an average of 1,152 on the SAT, far exceeded those of students across the state (985) and nation (1009).
American College Testing (ACT) consists of five subtests: English (English usage), math (based on Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Trigonometry), reading, science reasoning (a science-based reasoning test) and writing. ACT scores range from 1-36 with the composite score being the average of all five subtests. Plano ISD students scored an average of 25.7 on the test, exceeding the state (20.8) and national (21) averages.
Plano ISD exceeds the local average for participation in Advanced Courses and Dual Enrollment. The Dual Credit Program consists of college courses offered by an institution of higher education for which high school students receive simultaneous academic credit from both the college and the high school upon course completion.
The percent of graduates who scored at or above the criterion score on the exit-level TAKS test OR the SATs OR the ACTs in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The percent of examinees with at least one AP or IB score at or above the criterion score (3 on AP or 4 on IB). AP Exam scores are reported on a 5-point scale, while the IB program is scored on a 7-point scale. 84.1% of Plano ISD's AP and IB students are meeting or exceeding the criterion score.
This 4-year rate sums together the percent of students in the 2005-06 cohort who received their high school diplomas by August 31, 2009 and those who were still enrolled as high school students for the 2009-10 school year. Plano ISD’s completion rate of 97.3% far exceeds the state average of 89.2%.
