State Teacher of the Year!

Karen Shepherd, Plano Senior High School Science Department Chair, captured the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year Award, State Commissioner of Education Shirley Neeley announced this week. In addition to the state recognition, Ms. Shepherd has been selected as Texas' representative to the National Teacher of the Year Program. read

LULAC to Honor Teacher María Márquez

Sigler Elementary School First Grade Bilingual Team Leader María Márquez, Plano ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, will be recognized by LULAC at the Plano chapter's October 27 awards banquet. Ms. Márquez will be honored for excellence in teaching and for promoting parental involvement. read

Trustees to Consider 2006-07 Start Date

At their October 18 business meeting, the school board is scheduled to consider options for the 2006-07 school year start date. Options will be posted this week on the school board's "current agenda," which includes links to information about the agenda items. read

   
Martha Hunt  

Hunt Elementary Dedication November 17

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees and administration invite the community to attend the Martha J. Hunt Elementary School dedication and open house to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. The retired Ms. Hunt served for many years as principal at Plano ISD's Mendenhall Elementary School. read

   
United Way Logo  

Employees Donate $160k to United Way

Plano ISD's Human Resources Division reports that faculty and staff at our 66 schools and 15 service buildings raised nearly $160,000 in this year's United Way campaign drive. Employees gave "above and beyond average" to support United Way agencies impacted in the aftermath of recent hurricanes. View our list of "Goal Busters" online. read

Power Outage

On Saturday, October 15, Plano ISD's data and voice services will be affected during a central administration building power outage scheduled from noon to 8:00 p.m. The power will be shut down to the building, located at 2700 W. 15th Street, while Verizon Cellular installs a cell tower on the roof. The outage will affect all schools' and departments' computer and telephone services. There will be no access to the data network, either internal or remote - including district websites - and no phone/voice mail service during the outage.

Game Day Sponsor
Middlekauff Ford is the Game Day Sponsor for the Plano Wildcats Homecoming Game vs. The Colony on October 14. The game will air on the Internet at k-12.pisd.edu/WCAT as well as on radio station 104.7 FM (in the stadium).
Concert Canceled
The 'Helping to Heal' hurricane benefit concert, scheduled for October 16 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, has been canceled due to low ticket sales. Event organizers report that money will be refunded to all ticket holders.
