Congratulations
to the Plano West Senior High School Lady Wolves who captured
the Girls Basketball 5A State Championship on Saturday, March
4, at UT's Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The Wolves stung the
Rockwall
Yellowjackets
54 to
47.
The
Plano Senior High School Boys Basketball Team is headed to
the state finals, after defeating El Paso Montwood 60 to 45

Kristen
Nash, Lady Wolf basketball player for the past four years,
said that she had mixed emotions following her team's state
championship game. "I'm
so excited that we won,
but
I'm
going to miss the team and Coach Patterson at the end of the
school year," said
the 6'2"
senior who scored nine points during the game.
She
signed in November, 2005, with the University of Texas
at Austin
to play this fall. About the championship
game, Kristen said, "We've all had the same dream since
Day One...to win state. We all get along
and
support
each other, and that's what it takes."
She
and her younger sister Kathleen, state championship game MVP
and top scorer with 17 points,
have
been
playing
basketball, "since we could walk," said
Kristen, whose PWSH
team went
undefeated
her sophomore year.
Coach
Don Patterson broke into dance on center
court as his girls celebrated their win. The girls were trailing
at halftime 18-13 but rallied in the second half
to
capture
the lead
and
win
the state
title.
Senior
Point Guard
Alexis Morgan, who had 14 points during the game, is accustomed
to celebrating championships in Plano ISD. Her
former teams at Robinson
Middle School and
Jasper
High School also won top titles, and she was a member of the
Lady Wolves when they went undefeated her sophomore year.
"This
was the big one," she said of the state
championship. When asked how her teammates would
describe her,
she said, "A
leader." Alexis is headed to college this fall to pursue
a pre-med major in psychology and marketing minor.
Lady
Wolf
Rachel Hester, who scored nine points during the championship
game, describes herself as "The goofiest team member...the
team clown." Even when the team was down in the first
half, she said, "We trusted each other and knew that we
would win it."
Rachel is headed to Elon University in North Carolina this
fall, where she'll rise with the Lady Phoenix basketball team.
"I couldn't have had a better high school experience," she said.
Congratulations
Plano West Lady Wolves!
