Service Award Winner Enjoys One-on-One Work with Students
First

When Azam Anet began working as a teaching
assistant at Schimelpfenig Middle School, she
brought seven years of teaching experience
from Iran. Being new to the United States,
she was unable to express herself the way she
wanted. “I have two kids who were unable
to speak English at all,” she said. “So
I have been able to understand my students
who have a hard time learning.”

Plano
East Theatre Advances to Regionals
Theatre students at
Plano East Senior High School have done it again.
They advanced last month to the UIL Area competition,
which they won while earning seven medals,
including best actor and all-star cast. They move
on to the
regional contest to be held April 22 in Lubbock.
The cast and crew will present "The
Marriage of Bette and Boo" at 7:00 p.m. on
April 18 at Plano East, 3000 Los Rios Boulevard.
Admission
is free.

Record
Number of State PTA Reflections Winners Advance to
National Contest
Plano ISD students
outdid themselves again this year in the National
PTA Reflections Program, with a record-breaking 72
awards at the Texas PTA Reflections contest, which
awards students for original work in visual arts,
photography, literature and music. Four Plano ISD
students' original work will advance to
the national level. There were more than 70,000 student
entries in Texas alone.

Junior Academy of Sciences
Capturing grand prize
and first place awards and qualifying to present their
research at the American Junior Academy of Sciences
in San Francisco in February 2007 are the following
high school scientists: Colleen Heacock and Shyam Murali,
Clark High School; Nicole Shepherd, Plano Senior High
School; and Kyle Higbee, Williams High School. Read

Legislature Convenes April 17
in Special Session on School Funding
Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Doug Otto has outlined Plano ISD's priorities for
the Texas Legislature, which convenes on April 17 in
a special session on school finance. Legislators have
30 days to resolve the state's school funding dilemma
and until June 1, 2006, to provide a new funding system
for the state's public schools. Stay tuned to our "Advocacy
