Mathews and Saigling Elementary Schools Win Top National Award

The U.S. Department of Education announced this week that Mathews and Saigling Elementary Schools have captured the prestigious 2005 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Award. They are among two dozen Texas schools to be honored under the new program. Both schools were cited for their academic superiority. read

McCall Elementary School Dedication

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees invites the community to attend the dedication ceremony and open house for David McCall, Jr. Elementary School, 6601 Cloverhaven Way, Plano 75074, which will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29. The school is named for the late David B. McCall, Jr., Plano ISD educator and local businessman and civic leader. read

Hurricane Benefit Concert

"The Vocal Majority," America's Premier Pops Chorus, will headline "Helping to Heal," a October 16 benefit concert to raise funds to assist hurricane evacuees who have relocated to Collin County cities. To be held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, the evening will feature high schools choirs from Plano, Frisco and McKinney. read

   
School Board Update

2006-07 Calendar Options

Trustees discussed two options for the 2006-07 Plano ISD School Calendar at their September 20 work session. Board members directed staff to proceed with the state waiver process for an August 7 or August 9 start date. They will consider the calendar at their October 18 business meeting. The board also heard reports about student testing and a revised high school curriculum. read

October 10 Town Hall Meeting

Trustees will host a town hall meeting on Monday, October 10, at Huffman Elementary School, one of three Plano ISD "key schools." The Huffman staff will present information about initiatives underway to improve student learning and close the achievement gap. read

Game Day Sponsor

Friday Night Football Game Day Sponsor for this week's football game between Plano Sr. High and Lewisville at Clark Stadium is Two Rows Classic Grill, 711 Central Expressway South, Allen, TX 75013. The game will be broadcast on k-12.pisd.edu/wcatonline and on an FM radio channel (To be announced at game).
