Mary Alice Skaggs

Happy 100th!

Mary Alice Skaggs, namesake of Skaggs Elementary School, will celebrate her 100th birthday surrounded by educators, family and friends from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on April 22 at Settlers Ridge Care Center in Celina. Mrs. Skaggs was PISD's first teacher to earn a master's degree. She was named 1958 Texas Teacher of the Year and one of Plano ISD's 100 Heroes during the school district's 1998-99 centennial celebration. Mrs. Skaggs is pictured (above) at a recent "Living Legends" tribute with Michelle Moses-Meeks, Skaggs Elementary teacher.

Maurice TysonMaurice Tyson (left) celebrated being named one of four Superintendent's Service Award winners at Plano ISD's 43rd Annual "Salute to Service" employee recognition banquet held on April 17 at Southfork Ranch. Honored at the event were 80 service award nominees, 300 service pin recipients, including Tommy Kimbrough (above) for 40 years of service, and several retiring educators. READ

Special Educator Earns H-E-B Award

Tracey King, instructor at Plano ISD's Larry D. Guinn Special Programs Center, has captured finalist standing in H-E-B's Excellence in Education Awards Program recognizing Texas teachers. The "Rising Star" will be honored on May 4 in Houston, where she will compete for the state award. READ

900 Applicants Attend Plano Job Fair

Plano ISD's March 29 Recruitment Open House was a huge success, with 900 teaching applicants and 500 volunteers in attendance. "As a result of the open house and other recruiting efforts, we hope to fill all vacancies with only the most highly qualified teaching candidates," reports Tamira Griffin, Plano ISD executive director of human resources.
