Join hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members at Plano ISD's annual tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. The pre-event salute will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, at Plano Centre. The tribute event will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Community Invited to January 21 MLK Tribute

Hundreds of students will lead the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., tribute event to be held on Thursday, January 21, at Plano Centre, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway. A pre-show video will begin at 6:35 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. program. "Free to Lead" is the theme for the event, which is free and open to the public and will showcase students in a parade of nations and the Plano Children's Chorale, Plano Senior High School Wind Ensemble, Beaty Early Childhood School students, speech students, art contest winners, student writers and JROTC cadets. Also at the event, nominees and winners of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory Committee's diversity leadership awards will be announced. READ

NCEA Higher Performing Schools

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) recognized 37 Plano ISD schools as part of its 2009 Just for the Kids Campaign for Higher Performing Schools in Texas. NCEA's mission is to help K-12 students reach college and career readiness. Its campaign identifies and celebrates higher performing schools nationwide. READ

School Board Update

January 19 Meeting - School trustees will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, at the Plano ISD Administration Building, 2700 W. 15th Street. Following is a brief list of agenda items. View the full agenda and related links on BoardBookopens in new window.

  • Trustees will celebrate School Board Recognition Month, Holiday Greeting Card Art Contest finalists, the Autism Society of Collin County and TBEC Honor Roll Schools.
  • Consent agenda items will include bids and purchases, construction items, budget items, renewal of innovative courses and an employee benefit plan document.
  • Updates will be reported regarding Plano ISD's Employee Child Care Center and the State Board of Education's graduation requirements decision.
  • Policies for adoption will include FFAC (Local) and FFAA (Local) regarding wellness and health services and TASB Localized Policy Manual Update 86.
