Facility & Technology Bond Updates

The Plano ISD community passed bond elections in 2004 and 2008, voting for districtwide capital improvements. We invite you to read about these major construction and renovation projects and technology initiatives that have gained full steam this summer. Priorities include new school construction, major renovations and the infusion of new, high-speed wireless networks in all schools.

Sigler Elementary School

The brand new 75,000 square-foot Sigler Elementary School has replaced the original campus built in 1963. The $12 million facility has revitalized the neighborhood located near Alma Road and Plano Parkway.

State Issues School Ratings Report

Plano ISD students continue to score high on state standardized tests, according to preliminary accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on July 31. The "all student" group moved all five content areas to the "exemplary" level.read

Health Advisory Council Seeks Applicants

The Plano ISD Health Advisory Council invites members of the community to apply to serve on the council, which acts collectively to provide advice to the school district on all aspects of the school health program. For information about this and other advisory committees, and to download an application, visit our Advisory Committee website.

School Board Update

In addition to hearing reports on bond programs (see "Top Story" above), the Plano ISD Board of Trustees conducted the following business on August 4 (see full agenda on BoardBook):

  • Recognized Plano ISD Council of PTAs, represented by President Cara Mendelsohn, for state honors including "Texas Outstanding PTA Council Award" and "Overall Best PTA Legislative Award."
  • Received a check for $97,660.71 through the Encore SCORE program for energy conservation efforts.
  • Heard a report on the 2009 Summer School Program.
  • Approved several Consent Agenda items, including bids and several other routine business items.
  • Voted to endorse a candidate for the Texas Association of School Boards - Region 10 service area.
  • Adopted policies on first or final reading.
