I am pleased to present to you Plano ISD's 2010 Annual Report, Illuminating Learners, which reflects the results of a 12-month journey filled with gains in educational achievement. The report details college readiness indicators for the Plano ISD Class of 2010, results of state assessments and many achievements of our students, teachers and schools. Financial ratings and bond project updates are outlined in the report as are highlights of vital programs provided by the Plano ISD Education Foundation and other community partners. We conclude the report with a look at major district initiatives underway this school year. On behalf of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, I invite you to celebrate the successes of our district and to share these success stories with your friends and colleagues. January 20 MLK Tribute Open to Community

"An Illuminating Legacy” is the theme for Plano ISD's annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, at Plano Centre. The program will be free and age appropriate for all family members and will celebrate diversity in our schools and community. Hundreds of students will participate in the event along with school and community leaders. Read more about this event and a list of other city-wide commemorations. read

Ski Plano January 29 at Southfork Ranch

Bundle up in your favorite ski sweater and jeans for "An Extraordinary Evening on the Mountaintop" at Ski Plano 2011, a fundraiser to be hosted by the Plano ISD Education Foundation on January 29 at Southfork Ranch. The 15th annual event, which benefits Plano ISD students, staff and programs, will feature opening music by Custer's Last Band, dinner and dancing to the Mars Hill band, silent and live auctions and the Neiman Marcus Avalanche raffle. Event emcee will be W. T. Greer, Plano ISD alumni and musician. read

Student Using Netbook

National 'Speak Up' Survey

Through January 21, Plano ISD students, teachers and parents can participate in Speak Up, an online national research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow. Speak Up annually polls students, educators and parents about key topics of importance to K-12 educators and policy makers. Survey question topics include learning and teaching with technology, emerging technologies, school-to-home communication and recommendations for 21st century schools. READ
