Trustees Invite Community to October 11 Town Hall Meeting

Meet in person with the Plano ISD Board of Trustees at its first town hall meeting of the school year to be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 11, in the Clark High School Library, 523 Spring Creek Parkway, Plano 75023.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto will present information on the topic of digital learning environments. The meeting will also provide the public time for informal conversation with trustees.

Plano ISD Education Foundation Hosts First Annual CEO Breakfast to Discuss Business Partnerships


Joel Allison of Baylor Health Care SystemSupporting public schools was the topic of a first-annual CEO breakfast hosted by the Plano ISD Education Foundation and Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly. The event was held September 29 at Gleneagles Country Club with corporate and civic chiefs representing approximately 20 businesses and organizations who discussed challenges affecting public schools, the importance of great public schools and forging ongoing partnerships and dialogue with public school educators. Save the Date for Ski Plano 2011

Ski Plano 2011 is sure to be "An Extraordinary Evening on the Mountaintop" as the Plano ISD Education Foundation hosts its 15th annual fundraiser to benefit Plano ISD students, faculty and staff. This year's event will be held on Saturday, January 29, at Southfork Ranch. Read more about the event and make reservations on the Education Foundation website.

Academy Visioning Committee Update

Plano ISD's Academy Visioning Committee has held weekly meetings since September 1 to study the possibility of an academy school for the district. The group has heard from two student panels, held video conferences with existing academy schools and has shared ideas in a collective digital workspace. School Board Update

October 5 Regular Meeting -- Trustees will conduct their regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, at the Plano ISD Administration Building. The agenda with links to supporting documents is posted on BoardBookopens in new window. Agenda items include:

  • Recognitions - "Texas Human Resources Day" and "2010 Best Places to Work in D/FW" Award.
  • Consent Agenda - routine business items such as bids, purchases, budget items, advisory committee appointments, and more.
  • Bond Sale, Series 2010 - Consider all matters incident and related to the issuance and sale of Plano ISD Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds.
  • State Financial Rating - Public Hearing on Schools FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) Rating for Plano ISD.
  • Reports - Digital Booktalks, Professional Development Update and Academy Visioning Committee Update.
  • Policies - FDB(LOCAL) Admissions: Intradistrict Transfers and Classroom Assignments, on second reading.

Communicating with Trustees -- In a recent letter addressed to the Plano ISD Council of PTAs and campus PTA presidents, Trustee Carrolyn Moebius, board liaison to PTAs, addressed the topic of communicating with the board. Read her letter PDF.
