Top Story Middle School Student Captures Third Place in BroadcomMASTERS National Science Competition As an active member of the Schimelpfenig Middle School Recycling Club, student I-Chun Lin wanted to find an inexpensive, eco-friendly way to harness solar power. She learned that dye-sensitized solar cells are cheaper to manufacture than solar panels but are not nearly as efficient. She hypothesized that a mixture of dyes would be most efficient, helping the cell to increase its voltage output. I-Chun's science research earned her third place honors and $5,000 at the premier Broadcom MASTERS™ competition, a program of the Society for Science & the Public in which middle school students demonstrate their mastery of Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering as Rising Stars through science competition. I-Chun and two fellow Plano ISD students competed in the national finals this month.

Other News Junior League Gift to Education Foundation to Fund Sci-Tech Visits Students at 19 Plano ISD schools will experience hands-on science and technology at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center, thanks to a $35,000 donation from the Junior League of Collin County to four county education foundations. Calling All Alumni for October 28 Tailgate Party & 'Pink Out' Rival Game All Plano ISD alumni are invited to show their school spirit at the Plano vs. Plano East football match up on Friday, October 28, at Clark Stadium. The fun will begin with a tailgate party and continue with a "Pink Out" themed game. Your event ticket will benefit students and staff through the Plano ISD Alumni Association. Family Fitness Fair October 29 All Plano ISD elementary school students and their families are invited to a Fall Fun Family Fitness Fair (5F) from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, at Clark Stadium.
