Plano East Athletic Director Elected President
of Texas High School Coaches' Association
Johnny Ringo Johnny Ringo, Plano East Senior High School athletic director and head football coach, will lead what he calls, "The greatest group of coaches in the world," when the Texas High School Coaches' Association passes him the president's gavel in 2012. "When I was a young coach, many coaches went out of their way to help me. This is one way that I can give back," said Johnny, who is featured in our top story and video. read

This week, Encana Oil & Gas funded science fair sponsor training for Plano ISD educators. The company will also support PISD's secondary science fair and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives. READ
School Board Update

At their September 6 meeting, trustees approved the agenda items listed below. The agenda can be viewed on BoardBook. An edited version of the meeting video is posted on the district website and can be viewed on Plano Time-Warner Cable Channel 99 and Verizon FIOS 33 at 8:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays at noon and 8:00 p.m.

Administrative Appointments ~ As part of the consent agenda, which was approved by the board, the following administrative appointments were announced.

  • Teysha Glover, Bowman Middle School administrative intern
  • Susan Meyers, Armstrong Middle School assistant principal
  • Reba Roberson, Clark High School assistant principal

Bad Weather Make-Up Days Revised ~ Also as part of the consent agenda, trustees revised the 2011-12 bad weather make-up days. Read more on our district website.

Senior High School Options Report ~ Administrators presented a report on senior high options which included a review of average class sizes and number of club opportunities in the senior high schools and estimated costs of the planned expansion of PWSH and of a fourth senior high school. Following the report, public comment was heard from 83 speakers. Trustees discussed the information presented and will review information regarding balancing PWSH and PSHS and balancing the three senior highs at their September 20 board work session.

District Initiatives ~ The board adopted the proposed 2011-12 school year initiatives as presented by the administration.

Tax Rate ~ The board adopted a maintenance and operating tax rate of $1.04 for 2011-12 and a debt service tax rate of $0.3334 for 2011-12 for a combined total rate of $1.3734/$100 value as set forth by the resolution to levy a tax rate.

Policies ~ The board adopted TASB Localized Policy Manual Update 90 under second reading as presented by Karla Oliver, executive director for government and community relations.

Trustees will meet next during a work session at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, at the Sockwell Center, 6301 Chapel Hill Boulevard, Plano 75093.
