Academic Decathlon Team Captures Regional Championship
February 7, 2005
Congratulations to the Plano Senior High School Academic Decathlon
Team, which captured first place at the regional competition
held in late January in Coppell. Advancing to the
state event to be held later this month in Corpus Christi,
the students earned more than 30 individual medals:
7 first place, 14 second place and 10 third place.

Congratulations also go to the Plano East Senior High School team
which ranked 10th out of 40 schools at the regional
event. Teammates include Samy Anand, Matt Evans, Pouya
Fatemi, Bobby Hendrix, Shweta Jain, Kavya Naini, Rija
Qureshi, Jason Smith and David Tsai. Amy Eckler and
Jan Molepske are coaches.
The Plano West Senior
High School team ranked 11th at the regional event.
Team members are Sarah Emich, Lawrence
Halcomb, Olina Jou, Enhao Li, Philip Li, Brenley McGuff,
Cole Menasco, Joanne Shih and Josh Weinberg. Terri
Fargason and Shawn Coryell are coaches.

Academic Decathlon is a national competition that provides an opportunity
for high school students to experience the challenges
of rigorous academic competition in 10 academic events: speech, interview,

super quiz, language and literature, economics, art,
music, social science and math. Competition levels include district,
regional, state
and national.
