Plano
Schools to Celebrate
National Library Week April 10-16
April 7, 2005
Visit your school or public library during National Library Week,
April 10-16 to use and enjoy books and online resources, as well as
participate in an array of activities. In keeping with the theme for
2005 -- “Something for EVERYONE @ Your Library” -- you
are invited to join in the celebration.
Special events in elementary schools will include displays of bookmark
designs, local celebrity readers, “Read It Forward” event
celebrating favorite poetry (April is National Poetry Month), book
swaps, and daily TV announcements relating to books and reading. Middle
schools will be hosting lunch-time student book club discussions in
the library, creating displays of Caldecott and Newbery award-winning
books, providing book fine “amnesty” for the week and
creating morning news library trivia questions.
High school libraries will be promoting books with events for students
and teachers. Student poetry will be displayed in the “Poetry
Corner” and students will be encouraged to participate book
talks and discussions. A number of schools will be inviting teachers
to attend “sneak previews” of new materials complete with
refreshments.
In addition to the PISD observances, the various public libraries
will also be sponsoring a number of activities for
children and adults. For details about Plano Public
Library plans, visit the City of Plano Library online.
Happy reading!
