Network
Outage At Five Schools
April 27, 2005 - (original posting - 10:30 a.m.)
(Please "refresh" your browser to view the latest update.)
Communication at Daffron, Gulledge and Haun Elementary
Schools, Robinson Middle School and Jasper High School
was disrupted the morning of Wednesday, April 27,
when a contractor, unrelated to Plano ISD, destroyed
a sizeable length of the district’s
network conduit and fiber. This disabled the telephone
voice mail, e-mail and use of external network computer
data at these schools.
(1st UPDATE - April 27 - 2:50 p.m.) The systems should be
up and running by the start of school on Thursday. We expect no
interruption to any service on Thursday.
(2nd UPDATE - April 28 - 10:15 a.m.) All operations are
up and running this morning. Network services
were restored by about 6:45 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 27.
Each
principal has access to an emergency telephone
line (which is an unpublished number), cell phones
and emergency radios for communicating with security
and police. Emergency services are in place and continue
to be operational.
Our goal during the outage was to maintain a normal instructional
school day.
We want to assure you that the students and staff remain
safe and secure. Plano ISD staff worked with SBC
to resolve this outage as quickly as possible. We appreciate
our parents' and community's patience and support.
We communicated this message
and other related information through the automated
telephone message system, this district website,
the individual school
websites and the district electronic newsletter. (School
district patrons may subscribe to the school district
and individual school electronic newsletters at http://elist.pisd.edu.)
Sincerely,
Patty Meyer
Assistant Superintendent for the West Cluster Schools
