ISD PTAs Capture
Numerous District 10 Awards
April 18, 2005
Mitchell Elementary School PTA was awarded the PTA District 10 “Outstanding
Parent Involvement Award" on Saturday, April 16, at the
PTA Spring Conference held in Duncanville. In addition,
several Plano ISD PTAs garnered awards at the annual
recognition event. "Of all school districts represented,
Plano PTAs by far earned the most awards," said Becky Brown, Plano
ISD Council of PTAs president. "I am so proud
of the accomplishments of our PTAs."
Outstanding Parental Involvement Award
Mitchell Elementary School's parental involvement award was based
upon criteria and programs implemented at the school.
Mitchell Elementary was successful in creating a vehicle
to integrate multi-cultural families to become more comfortable
and involved with the school and staff through the
2nd Annual International Fair: “Mitchell
Unites the World through Sports.”
The school day included
a Parade of Flags, Olympic Honorarium, Indoor and
Outdoor Sports, Classroom Games and Sport Booths. The
students enjoyed motivational messages from Olympians
and participated in games and sports from
around the world taught by the multi-cultural parents.
As a result, volunteerism has increased among the multi-cultural parents
who now
serve the school as reading tutors, library aids,
field trip chaperones and translators for the “Ambassadors
Club.”

Rockwall, Fannin, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman and Ellis. The Mitchell Elementary
PTA entry for the “Outstanding Parent Involvement Award” has
been sent to be judged at the state Level.
