Facilities
Named in Honor
of Longtime District Employees
March 3, 2005
The Special Programs Center 9-12 and Williams High School baseball field will
soon be named in honor of longtime Plano ISD employees who championed the causes
of many students during their careers in the district.
School trustees on March
1 voted to name the secondary special programs facility in honor of Larry Guinn,
former executive director of student services, who was committed to the idea
that student competence can be built or rebuilt through an approach that combines
individual attention, academic success, behavior adjustment and networking
of school and community resources. Trustees also approved
the naming of Williams High School’s baseball field in honor
of Trena Ann Davis, the school’s
former office manager.
Students who enter the doors of the secondary special
programs center will know that Larry Guinn was instrumental in the formation
and successful operation
of
the center, which has been in existence since August, 1995. The center has
been recognized as one of the finest examples of alternative schooling and
has been
visited by numerous school districts from Texas and around the nation. Mr.
Guinn served as the district’s first executive director of student
services. In that capacity, and even prior to that time, he was involved
in the development
and successful implementation of the Practical Parent Education Program,
Safe and Drug Free Schools and Community Programs and Pasar, Plano ISD’s
after-school program.
Trena Ann Davis spent 27 years at Williams High School
as the receptionist
and office manager. Her love of sports and baseball, in particular, made
her the
Williams High School baseball team’s number one fan. She worked tirelessly
to assist the team in many ways and was a consummate supporter of the Williams’ baseball
program. The request to name the facility in her honor came from various
Williams baseball teams over the past several years and the staff at Williams.
