Librarian,
Administrator Earn ‘Educator of the
Year’ Honors
February 21, 2005
Congratulations to two Plano ISD employees who were selected to
receive “Educator of the Year” awards at the Texas Computer
Education Association’s (TCEA) annual state conference last
week.
Diane Lutz, Plano West Senior High School librarian,
was named Librarian of the Year, and Mary Hewett,
executive director of instructional technology, captured
Administrator of the Year honors.
They were each selected by a committee of TCEA members from among
respective groups of nominees. The Librarian of the
Year Award is given to a Texas certified librarian
who actively promotes the integration of technology
in the Library Media Center and works collaboratively
with administrators, teachers and students to promote
and support the integration of technology throughout
the curriculum.
The Technology Administrator
of the Year Award is presented to a technology administrator
who exhibits exemplary vision and management of technology
at the district level.
The winners and finalists were presented with plaques during a keynote
session at the convention, which was attended by more
than 12,000 people. Winners received monetary gifts
of $1,000.
Students Participate in ‘STARS’ Technology
Academy
Also at TCEA conference, two Plano East Senior High School students,
Billy Carter and James White, participated in the
Student Technologists Achieving Real Success (STARS)
Academy. The Academy showcased 20
students selected from across
Texas to demonstrate the
latest in educational technology.
The students used multimedia, video and Web tools to
create projects about advances in educational technology
over the last 25 years. Billy is active in the orchestra,
Latin Club and UIL history competitions. He enjoys
working in HTML and Macromedia Flash. James is co-president
of the Plano East Anime Club and enjoys working in
