Teachers
of the Year to be Honored
at May 12
'Passport to Paradise' Gala
 "Night
of a Thousand Stars: Passport to Paradise" was the theme for
Plano ISD’s Teacher of the Year Gala which launched at
6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, at one of the most popular “ports
of call” in town - Plano Centre, 2000 E. Spring Creek Pkwy.
About the Teacher of the Year Gala
On board to celebrate and honor this year’s 66 Teacher of
the Year nominees and 61 Beginning Teacher of the Year nominees,
recently selected by their school peers, were approximately 1,400
educators, PTA leaders, school and city dignitaries and corporate
sponsors.
Moving full steam ahead in the fall of 2004 with plans for
the annual celebration was a committee of school district staff
and
community
leaders.
At the
helm were Karla Oliver, executive director for government and community
relations, and Becky Brown, president of the Plano ISD Council
of
PTAs.
“The Teacher of the Year Gala is one of Plano ISD’s
most exciting and rewarding events, and we adding more drama
and excitement than ever before,” announced Ms. Oliver, who
also served on the Teacher of the Year Selection Committee. The
group of district and community leaders interviewed experienced
Teacher of the Year nominees in February, 2005,
and selected
Plano ISD’s 2005 Teachers of the Year (elementary and secondary),
including all “Excellence in Teaching” award winners,
who announced at the May 12, 2005, gala.
