Plano
Wildcats Win State 5A
Boys Basketball Championship!
March 11, 2006
Coach
Tom Inman and the Plano Senior High School Wildcats Basketball
Team made history on March 11 as the first Plano ISD
team to capture a state basketball championship. The boys dethroned
defending
state champs Humble Kingwood 60-58 on Saturday at UT's
Erwin Center
in Austin
in overtime to win the state title.
'Dream Come True'
Interviewed on Fox Sports Network,
which televised the 5A state championship game, Junior Point Guard
and MVP John Roberson said, "I give a lot of credit to my teammates."
Referring to his recent move from Florida, he commented, "I'm glad
I picked Plano. This
is a dream
come
true for
me."
Coach Tom Inman, interviewed on the
telecast following the victory, said, "It means everything to me
and the kids to win this state championship. I want to thank the
community for its support of the basketball program."
Coach
Inman's team won in overtime, coming back from a first-half trail. "I've
always said we have a good 'second-half team,'" he stated. "And
we played good defense tonight against Kingwood." Referring
to Roberson, he said "If
he's not the best point guard in the state and the nation, I want
to see who is." He also complimented Lawrence Mann for his
great effort during the game. In the winner's circle following
the game, Texas Governor Rick Perry presented medallions to the
reigning state champs, the Plano Wildcats.
