Multi-ethnic Committee Honors Diversity Leadership Awardees

February 3, 2006

 

Congratulations to Vines High School Spanish Teacher Magda Levi and Andrews Elementary School PTA Multicultural Program Coordinators Katrine Kyhnel and Graciela Katzer, who were presented with individual and group awards, respectively, in the Plano ISD Multi-ethnic Committee’s 2006 Diversity Leadership Awards Program. The winners were recognized at PISD’s January 19 Martin Luther King Tribute event.

As sponsor of the Vines High School multicultural club, step team and intramural soccer, Ms. Levi has helped educate students about world cultures and provided students opportunities to share knowledge about their own cultures. Her diverse background as a marketing manager for the Latin America region of Texas Instruments, world travels and community service make her an advocate for foreign language and cultural awareness. Her student clubs have participated in the Plano International Festival and intramural activities, sponsored “Winter Around the World” at Vines and implemented the school’s recycling program.

 

Andrews Elementary PTA

Graciela and KatrineCultural Diversity Family Night, “Celebrate the World,” is made possible by the PTA’s Multicultural Diversity Programs, led by Katrine Kyhnel and Graciela Katzer. These highly-motivated PTA leaders work diligently to integrate all families at Andrews, recruit volunteers, involve teachers and students, and plan children’s workshops and intercultural communications training for the PTA. In addition to school activities, Ms. Katzer serves as president of the International Women’s Club of Plano, and Ms. Kyhnel is an active club member/webmaster.


Honorable Mention Awards

Also recognized by the Multi-ethnic Committee were the following honorable mention winners: Nasima Chowdhury, Hedgcoxe Elementary special education assistant, Aldridge Elementary ELMS (English Language Made Simple) Club, and the Schimelpfenig Middle School Safari Book Club.
