Multi-ethnic
Committee Honors Diversity Leadership Awardees
February 3, 2006
Congratulations to Vines High School
Spanish Teacher Magda Levi and Andrews Elementary School PTA Multicultural
Program Coordinators Katrine Kyhnel and Graciela Katzer, who were
presented with individual and group awards, respectively, in the
Plano ISD Multi-ethnic Committee’s 2006 Diversity Leadership
Awards Program. The winners were recognized at PISD’s January
19 Martin Luther King Tribute event.
Magda Levi
As sponsor
of the Vines High School multicultural club, step team and intramural
soccer, Ms. Levi has helped educate students about world
cultures and provided students opportunities to share knowledge about their
own cultures. Her diverse background as a marketing
manager for the Latin America region of Texas Instruments, world
travels and community service make her an
advocate for foreign language and cultural awareness. Her student clubs have
participated in the Plano International Festival and intramural activities,
sponsored “Winter
Around the World” at Vines and implemented the school’s recycling
program.
Andrews Elementary PTA
Cultural
Diversity Family Night, “Celebrate
the World,” is made possible by the PTA’s Multicultural Diversity
Programs, led by Katrine Kyhnel and Graciela Katzer. These highly-motivated
PTA leaders work diligently to integrate all families at Andrews, recruit volunteers,
involve teachers and students, and plan children’s workshops and intercultural
communications training for the PTA. In addition to school activities, Ms.
Katzer serves as president of the International Women’s Club of Plano,
and Ms. Kyhnel is an active club member/webmaster.
Honorable Mention Awards
Also recognized by the Multi-ethnic
Committee were the following honorable mention winners: Nasima
Chowdhury, Hedgcoxe Elementary
special education assistant, Aldridge Elementary ELMS (English Language Made
Simple) Club, and the Schimelpfenig Middle School Safari Book Club.
