Plano East
Theatre Wins 1st Place
at State UIL One-Act Play
Contest

Plano
East Theatre's production of "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" won
first place at the UIL State One-Act Play
Contest
held on
Saturday,
May 8. The contest was held in the Bass Performance Hall on the
UT campus. The Plano East students' performed for more than 2,000
people and were treated to the only standing ovation of the day!
Ozi
Akagha was named best actress and also received The Samuel French
Award for
the best performance. This is just an incredible accomplishment
for these talent students.

PSHS Wins Second Place for Technical Theatre
The Plano Senior High School Technical Theatre Design Team won
second place at the UIL One-Act Play State Meet this past weekend.
The
team of Emily Ward, Ashley Sykes and Garrett Graham
placed their entry in December and were evaluated on May 6
at UT in Austin.
The following awards were won:
- Emily Ward - Bronze Medal in Set Design
- Garrett Graham, Bronze
Medal in Publicity Design
- Emily Ward, Garrett Graham and Ashley
Sykes - Gold Medal for Team Design
- Emily Ward, Garrett Graham
and Ashley Sykes - Silver Medal for Overall Performance

In the 80 years of UIL One-Act Play, this was the first design
contest to recognize PSHS students' achievements in theatrical
design.
UIL Speech Awards
In addition to these theatrical accomplishment, a number of Plano
ISD speech students earned top honors in their respective events:
- Tex
Dawson, Plano West, took first place in the Persuasive Speaking
Event.
- Alex Caple, Plano Senior High, placed fourth
in the same event.
- Whitney O'Banner from Plano Senior High finished
third in the Individual Poetry Interpretation Event
- PSHS
student Amir Kuzbari
placed sixth in the Individual Informative Speaking Event.
- The
Plano Senior High School Speech Team, coached by Karen Wilbanks,
Cheryl Potts and Vanda Terrell, earned fourth place
in the teams results.
- The Plano West Senior High School Speech
Team, coached
by Nancy Lewis and Janice Cordray came in sixth.
