Foundation Board of Honor
André Davidson, Foundation board, introduced five individuals
designated as the inaugural inductees into the recently
created Plano ISD Education Foundation Board of Honor, former directors
who have made significant and notable contributions to the Foundation
and to Plano ISD.

Board of Honor inductees
(l-r) Jim Boswell, John Wroten, Rebecca Morris, Joan Slater
and Rutledge Haggard
As a special tribute to the five honorees, the Plano
ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors has established a $25,000
endowment to be used for community awareness and operations of
the Foundation.
In addition, a plaque listing the names of the
members of the Board of Honor will be displayed in a prominent
location in the PISD Administration Building.
The
Plano ISD Education Foundation was a very big idea.
Jim Boswell
Director of Physician Services for
Presbyterian Hospital of Plano
While a member of the Foundation
Board of Directors, Jim served two terms as president. It was under
his leadership that the Foundation hired its first executive director.
During the early years of the organization, Jim’s involvement
with the Plano Chamber of Commerce provided a critical link to
the business community. He has long been an advocate for Plano
ISD and was instrumental in creating initial public awareness and
support of the Foundation.
Rutledge Haggard
Graduate of Plano Schools, Founding Plano Family
A graduate of Plano schools, PISD
Trustee from 1971-1989, and long-time Plano resident, Rutledge
Haggard
brought an invaluable historical
perspective to the Foundation Board of Directors throughout his
tenure. In conjunction with the PISD Centennial Celebration, he
generously underwrote publication of Plano Independent School District – An
Historical Perspective, which chronicles the history of PISD. Proceeds
from the sale of the book benefited the Foundation. For several
years, he served as the Foundation’s liaison to the Margaret
Reynolds Fund, which helps teachers in financial crisis. He also
graciously hosted Foundation fundraisers and other PISD events
at the Haggard Party Barn, often donating and cooking the food
himself.
Rebecca Morris
Dresser Industries-Retired, Founding Plano Family
A retired Dresser Industries attorney,
Plano graduate and PISD Trustee for 13 years, Rebecca Morris was
a founding
member
and
former officer of the Foundation Board of Directors. Her legal
and corporate background and non-profit experience with organizations
such as Practical Parent Education provided valuable expertise
in formulating the Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation
and By-laws. During her tenure, she also helped draft documents
to change the name of the organization and amendments to expand
the Foundation’s mission.
Joan Slater
Former Teacher, Key Communicators Chair
As a former
Plano ISD teacher and chair of Key Communicators for eight years,
Joan
Slater
had
a unique
understanding
of the
needs
of students and staff. A founding member of the board and secretary
for many years, she provided the Foundation a perspective from
an educator’s point of view. She also served as board president.
She and her husband, Jim, graciously hosted the first Foundation
fundraiser, Golden Futures, in their home. She solicited thousands
of dollars worth of silent auction items for Ski Plano. She was
a fundraising dynamo, whose can-do spirit profoundly impacted the
Foundation’s financial success.
John Wroten
EDS Executive-Retired
Mr. Wroten is a retired executive with EDS and a founder of the
Plano ISD Education Foundation. During his tenure on the board,
he arranged travel and hotel accommodations for prospective teachers
and administrators recruited by PISD. John served on the Foundation’s
Finance Committee for many years and was always willing to ask
the tough questions to ensure that the board upheld its fiscal
responsibility. His extensive business experience, financial expertise
and awareness of Plano’s business and economic environment
helped shape the Foundation’s future.
