McCall
Elementary School Dedication September 29
September 20, 2005
The
Plano ISD Board of Trustees invites the community to attend the
dedication ceremony and open house for David McCall, Jr.
Elementary School, 6601 Cloverhaven Way, Plano 75074, which will
be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29.
The school
is named for the late David B. McCall, Jr., Plano ISD educator
and local businessman and civic leader.
Mr. McCall began his teaching career in
the Plano school system in 1946. He became
the
first principal
of Mendenhall Elementary School
(then named Plano Elementary School) in 1954. Upon retirement
from teaching in 1956, he purchased the Joe Bradshaw Insurance
Agency
and
renamed
it David McCall Insurance Agency.

Mr. McCall served two terms as the mayor of the City of Plano,
was president of the Plano Chamber of Commerce and served for 24
years
representing
Plano and the North Texas Municipal Water District Board (chairing
the board many years).
He was named Plano Citizen of the Year twice and was honored among
Plano ISD's 100 Heroes during the school district's centennial
celebration in 1999. The City of Plano named its downtown plaza
in his honor in recent years.
