Plano Students Win Big in State PTA Reflections Competition

April 13, 2006

Plano ISD students outdid themselves again this year in the National PTA Reflections Program with a record-breaking 72 awards at Texas PTA State, and an unparalleled four entries advancing to National competition.

With over 70,000 entries submitted in the state of Texas alone, and so very few advancing to the National level, it is an incredible feat to have four entries advancing from the same school district.

The students whose entries won the Overall Award of Excellence in the 2005-2006 Reflections program, “I Wonder Why…” are:

  • Elise Cai, Andrews Elementary, Gr. 2, “My Cavity Situation: I Wonder Why if you have Cavities it's Better to Have Crowns,” Visual Arts
  • Hayden Larsen, Barksdale Elementary, Gr. 2, “Trash to Treasure,” Photography
  • Dara Li, Skaggs Elementary, Gr. 2, “Shooting Stars,” Music
  • Theresa Lii, Vines High School, Gr. 10, “I wonder why I have to eat these beans,” Visual Arts

Reflections is an arts recognition and achievement program for students based on the belief that all children deserve a quality arts education. Each student may enter in any of the four arts areas: literature, visual arts, photography and music. Students may submit more than one entry in any or all of the four arts areas. Students enter the Reflections program through their local PTA/PTSA. Awards are given at the local, council, district, state and national levels.

Congratulations to the 2005-2006 Reflections program Texas PTA State award winners from Plano ISD listed below. All students who won awards from the Plano ISD Council of PTAs Reflections program received their awards at the Council Awards Ceremony at Haggard Middle School on April 5.
