Regional Science Fair Winners Advance to International Event

April 3, 2006

A dozen Plano ISD students earned grand prize and special awards at the March 25 Beal Bank Regional Science and Engineering Fair, qualifying them to advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in May.

The four high school grand prize winners will attend the International Science and Engineering Fair with students from 50 other nations May 6-13 in Indianapolis.

  • Jeff Nanney - Plano East Senior High School
  • Colleen Heacock - Clark High School
  • Nabeel Lookmanjee - Clark High School
  • Sophia Goreczky - Shepton High School
  • Madelyn Jopling - Renner Middle School
  • Teammates Andrew Rubinett, Justin Fu, and Teddy Garber - Frankford Middle School

Also qualifying for the international fair:

  • Dustin Shung and Yasha Lashgari - Clark High School
  • Dawn Zhao and Karen Lin - Shepton High School

According to Linda Flack, secondary science coordinator, "Plano ISD students achieved a new record this year, with seven projects and 13 students advancing to the international fair. "We captured the four first place titles at both regional and state, which increases the number of projects attending by four," she said. "It has been an incredible year for Plano ISD."
