New
Assistant Superintendents
to Lead Central and East Schools
April 13, 2007
Superintendent
of Schools Dr. Doug Otto announced today the placement of two
staff members to the
vacant positions of area assistant superintendent.
Roxanne
Burleson, Vines High School principal, has been named
area assistant superintendent
for
the central
cluster, and Michael (Mike) Collinsworth,
Renner Middle School principal, has been named area assistant
superintendent
for the
east cluster. Both positions were vacant due to recent promotions
of Jeff Bailey, east cluster area assistant superintendent, to
deputy superintendent
and to the retirement announcement of Tom Salmon, current central
cluster area assistant superintendent.
“Mr.
Collinsworth and Ms. Burleson will make fine additions to the area
assistant
team and to my cabinet,” said Dr. Otto. “The caliber
of candidates considered for the positions was extremely high,
and I’m pleased that the leadership in Plano ISD is so strong.
I welcome these two fine educators and am committed to naming their
replacements at Vines High School
and Renner Middle School to assure
smooth transitions.”
Roxanne Burleson
Ms. Burleson originally joined the Plano ISD family of employees
in 1980 as a history teacher at Carpenter Middle School, and then
briefly served in Graham ISD before rejoining the Plano ISD staff
in 1987, again at Carpenter Middle School. She had previous experience
in Houston ISD.
She began her administrative career as the dean of students at
Carpenter Middle School in 1992, followed by service as the Haggard
Middle School assistant principal and eventually principal during
the years 1996 to 2005. She has served as the Vines High School
principal since June, 2005.
Ms. Burleson achieved a Bachelor of Science in Education and Political
Science at Midwestern State University (1977), followed by a Master
of Science in Political Science from the University of Texas at
Arlington (1980). She completed a Professional Mid-Management Certification
at the University of North Texas (1994) and continues coursework
for a Superintendent’s Certificate.
Mike Collinsworth

an assistant band director at Bowman Middle School. In 1978, having
exited Bowman as the head band director, he became the head band
director at Carpenter Middle School. Mr. Collinsworth began his
career in school administration in 1981, when he served as an assistant
principal at Schimelpfenig Middle School. He has served in his
present role as Renner Middle School principal since 1990.
