Forrest
Outreach Foundation Donates Computers to 70 Families
April 9, 2007
Seventy Plano ISD students have received brand-new laptop
computers, printers and software from Forrest
Outreach Foundation through its "Click-For-Success" mentor
program designed to provide hands-on computer training
and Internet
access
to economically disadvantaged students and their families.
More than 4,000 Collin County youth live below the poverty line.
Many of these students do not have regular access to a computer
and
they cannot practice computer skills in their homes. As a result,
these children can fall behind in school. Often, their parents
lack computer skills as well and do not know how to help them.
Click-for-Success offers a comprehensive solution. This non-profit
program provides 70 Plano ISD students and their families with
laptop computers, printers and software, as well as a detailed
and fun-filled
three-year curriculum.
The program currently operates at Meadows and
Mendenhall Elementary School and Armstrong Middle School. The
children in the program attend a weekly
computer club after school, and a Click-for-Success mentor visits
their home every other week to teach computer skills to the children
and their parents. This program promotes digital literacy, empowering
everyone in the family toward a better education, career and
future.
