eSchool
and CBOI Offer Students
Credit Recovery, Acceleration
September 8, 2006
Plano
ISD continues to meet the changing needs of its students through
an increasingly successful compendium of online courses. More and
more high school students are logging on to computer workstations
both at home and school to take advantage of Plano ISD’s
eSchool Program and the new Campus Based Online Instruction Program.
Providing
an avenue for credit recovery and academic acceleration, these
innovative programs are taught by 84 Plano ISD teachers, all current
or retired. The program also continues to serve students across
Texas, the United States and other countries on a tuition basis,
allowing them the flexibility and opportunity to take online courses
taught by master teachers.
Executive
Director for Student Services Cathy Galloway reported to school
trustees on September 5 the success
of the programs. She said that, during the 2005-06 school year,
eSchool served 2,439 students, an increase of approximately 60%
over the previous year.
“Since
the program’s inception
in 2000, eSchool has provided online education for nearly 7,000
high school students,” she noted. Student course completion
rates have increased from 60% in 2000 to 91 percent in 2005-06.
Passing rates continue at 98 percent.

for 226 students to opt for online credit recovery
during

and 91% passing rate.
