Red Ribbon Week October
23-27

Drug
and alcohol abuse prevention took center stage October 23-27 as
Plano ISD's nearly 53,000 students
joined their peers nationwide in celebrating "Drug-free
America Red Ribbon Week."
Activities ranged from special dress
days to prevention rallies and skits with "celebrity" guests.

Elementary Schools
Andrews Elementary School
Counselors at Andrews Elementary taught curriculum lessons about ways to stay safe and
drug free. On Wednesday, October 18, students and parents were given note cards to write about an anti-drug message or to write about a person who has been a positive influence in their life. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "I Elect to be Drug Free," wear red, white and blue; Tuesday - "Put On Your Thinking Caps," wear a fun hat; Wednesday - "Be Proud to be Drug-Free ," wear red; Thursday - "Make It a Goal to Stay Drug-Free," dress as your career for the future or wear your favorite college team's jersey; and Friday - "Our Future is Too Bright to Use Drugs," wear your favorite sunglasses or brightly colored clothing.
Barksdale Elementary School
There were hundreds of Barksdale Elementary School students and parents participating in a rally to promote a drug-free life. Special guests included Plano Mayor Pat Evans, Plano Police Chief Greg Rushin, Plano ISD Security Police Services Specialist Ormie Melton, McGruff the Crime Dog, Deuce the Roughriders Mascot and Jay Jenson of Radio Disney. Shepton High School Stallionettes woke up early Monday morning, October
23, 2006, to help the Barksdale Elementary Broncos kick-off Red Ribbon week.
As special guests on the "live" video production, Good Morning Barksdale,
they gave a brief history of Red Ribbon Week as well as telling the students
why they choose not to do drugs, alcohol or cigarettes.
This year's theme was "Dream Big, No Drugs." The rally was on Tuesday, October 24 from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Willow Bend Mall, followed by a march to school following the rally.
Bethany Elementary School
Red Ribbon Week was celebrated throughout the week. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Put a Cap On Drugs," wear your favorite cap; Tuesday - "We Are Too Smart," wear your favorite college shirt; Wednesday - "Give Drugs the Boot," wear boots or favorite western wear; Thursday - "Hugs Not Drugs," bring your favorite stuffed animal; and Friday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite team shirt or Bethany Elementary shirt.
Beverly Elementary School
All students at Beverly Elementary wore sunglasses on Wednesday to "Shade Out Drugs." The fourth and fifth grade students watched teachers give a play and heard a presentation from cluster substance abuse specialists during their PE class. An assembly was presented for the entire student body by High Flying Excitement entitled, "Choices and Consequences."
Boggess
Elementary School
The week of October 23 through 27 was a special and exciting time at Boggess. The week's focus encouraged all students to make good choices and decisions in their lives and to remain drug free. There were red ribbons at the front entrance reminding students to "Enter Ready to Learn" with a healthy/drug free brain. Red ribbons were given to all students to wear on Monday and throughout the week. Special Dress Days: Wednesday - all students and staff will wear red honoring Red Ribbon week; Thursday - "Drug Free and Proud," wear red, white and blue; Friday - "Paw Power to be Drug Free!" wear Boggess spirit wear.
Brinker Elementary School
Brinker Elementary celebrated the choice to be drug free. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - wear red and receive Red Ribbon bracelets to wear all week; Tuesday - "Orange You Glad You're Drug Free! ," wear orange; Wednesday - "My World is Brighter Without Drugs " wear yellow; Thursday - "Drugs Give Me the Blues," wear blue; and Friday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite team jersey.
Christie Elementary School
Christie Elementary celebrated the special week with dress-up themes: Monday - "Drugs Turn You Inside Out ," wear your clothes inside out; Tuesday - "My Future Is Bright! Shade Out Drugs," wear sunglasses, Wednesday - "Texas Ropers Aren't Dopers!" dress western, Thursday - "Drugs Have No Place In My Future," dress for what you would like to be in the future, and Friday - "It is Crazy to Do Drugs," wear your favorite crazy hair style. There was also a school-wide assembly on Wednesday put on by Nana Puddin'.
Dooley Elementary School
In conjunction with Red Ribbon Week, the Dooley Student Council sponsored a canned food drive contest between the grades. Daily themes: Monday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite team jersey; Tuesday - "Proud to Be Drug Free," wear red; Wednesday - "Put a Cap On Drugs," wear a hat/cap; Thursday - "Use Your Head, Don't Do Drugs," wear crazy hair or wigs; Friday - "Show School Spirit," wear Dooley shirts.
Haggar Elementary School
Several activities were planned during the week including a "Wheels of Freestyle" BMX Bicycle Show. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Sock It to Drugs," wear crazy socks; Tuesday - "Dream Team Against Drugs," wear favorite team jerseys; Wednesday - "Red Ribbon," wear red; Thursday - "Warm Up to a Drug Free Life," wear favorite sweats, and Friday - "We've Got the Spirit to Dream Big," wear Haggar Elementary spirit wear.
Harrington Elementary School
The PTA purchased pencils, bracelets, and decorative ribbons in
celebration of the week. In addition, the PTA brought a police
acrobatics assembly that taught kids how to deal with bullies.

Drugs Day; Celebrate A Drug Free Life Day; Slip Into Good Habits
Day; NO DRUGS in MY Future Day; and Show Your School Spirit Day.
Huffman Elementary School
Daily dress-up themes: Tuesday - "Don't Get Mixed Up in Drugs," wear mix and match clothes; Wednesday - "Too Cool For Drugs," wear sunglasses or a hat; Thursday - "Partner Up for the Fight Against Drugs," twin day, and Friday - wear red to symbolize unity against drugs.
Hughston Elementary School
The theme for Red Ribbon Week at Hughston Elementary School was "Move Above and Beyond By Staying Drug Free." Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Color My World Drug Free" wear brightly colored clothing or rainbow designs; Tuesday - "Be On the Team That Makes Hughston Drug Free," wear your favorite team shirt or hat; Wednesday - "Proud to be a Drug Free American," wear red, white and blue; Thursday - "Drugs Have No Place In My Future," wear a shirt or cap with a college name on it; and Friday - Wear your Hughston spirit wear to show your Mustang Pride!
Hunt Elementary School
Hunt Elementary students celebrated Red Ribbon Week and pledged to be drug free. Daily themes: Monday - "Pledge to be Drug Free Bracelet Day," each student was handed a bracelet to wear the entire week to show they supported being drug free; Tuesday - "Sock It To Drugs Day," wear crazy or red socks; Wednesday - "Wear Red Day," wear red; Thursday - "Hound Dogs Don't Do Drugs Day," bring your favorite small stuffed dog; and Friday - "Too Cool for Drugs Day," wear sunglasses. The week ended with an assembly by Mr. Eddie Coker on Friday sponsored by the Hunt PTA.
Mathews Elementary School
Mathews Elementary celebrated the special week with the following daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Too Smart to Start-Be Smart-Don't Do Drugs," wear your favorite college shirt; Tuesday - "Tie One On Against Drugs," wear a regular, silly, or crazy tie; Wednesday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite team shirt or jersey; Thursday - "Put a Cap On Drugs," wear a baseball cap or crazy hat; and Friday - "Character Counts When It Comes to Saying No To Drugs," show your school spirit by wearing Mathews spirit wear. A culminating activity was on Monday, October 30 when the dynamic duo of Officer Bianez and Office Privett came to give their Knock Out Message with the exciting use of a trampoline and martial arts demonstration.
Mitchell Elementary School
Meadows Elementary theme for the week was "Color My World-Drug Free! Dress-up themes: Monday - "I Have Better Things to do Than Drugs," wear red and receive a special bracelet to wear all week; Tuesday - "Orange You Glad You're Drug Free," wear orange; Wednesday - "My World is Brighter Drug Free," wear yellow and fun sun shades; Thursday - "Drugs Give Me the Blues," wear blue; and Friday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite team jersey or Mitchell Elementary spirit wear. An assembly was held with special guest Dennis Lee of Nana Puddin' Productions.
Rasor Elementary School
A Red Ribbon Parade was held on Friday as the culmination of Red Ribbon Week and a month-long study of Drug Awareness. The parade included every student marching in a neighborhood parade along with Plano East Senior High School cheerleaders, Charro the drug sniffing dog, motorcycles, convertibles, and the fire and police departments.
Shepard Elementary School
Shepard Elementary celebrated the special week with several activities. Daily themes: Monday, students received a "Reach for the Stars Not Drugs" ribbon to wear all week. Tuesday - "Boot Out Drugs," wear your favorite western wear, Wednesday - "Stop! Look Out for Drugs," students received STOP necklaces; Thursday - "Surround Yourself with a Drug Free Spirit," students received patriotic bracelets; and Friday - "Be On the Team That Makes Patriots Drug Free," wear your favorite team jersey, shirt or hat. An assembly was held on Friday put on by the Morris Brothers.
Stinson Elementary School
Stinson Elementary had all students recommit to the school pledge
to continue to be Drug Free. Daily themes: Monday - "Put
Your Armor on Against Drugs," students received a red ribbon
to wear each day; Tuesday - "It's Hot to Not Use Drugs," wear
red; Wednesday - "Team Up Against Drugs and Alcohol," wear
your favorite team shirts; Thursday - "I Can Be Drug Free," bring
in one canned food item to be donated to a local food pantry and
receive a spirit tag; and Friday - "Be On the Team That Makes
Stinson Drug Free," wear Stinson spirit wear. An
assembly was held with special guest Dennis Lee of Nana Puddin'
Productions (pictured below).

Thomas Elementary School
Daily themes: Monday - "I'm Too Smart to Start," make a real difference in someone's life with a random act of kindness; Tuesday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite sports team jersey or shirt; Wednesday - wear red to show the world that you pledge to be drug free; Thursday - "Today is the Day We Make choices for Tomorrow," wear your favorite college shirt, and Friday - "Our Mission is Possible to Live in a Drug Free Community," wear Thomas Elementary spirit wear. In addition, the students at Thomas collected items each day in order to think of and help others in our community. They collected canned vegetable, canned fruit, canned meat, school supplies and office supplies, cleaning supplies, baking supplies and gently used or new books.
Wells Elementary School
Wells Elementary students kicked off the week by signing a pledge card to remain drug free. Daily dress themes: Tuesday - "Socking It to Drugs," wear crazy & wild socks; Wednesday - "Drugs and I don't Mix," wear mismatched clothing; Thursday - "Follow Your Dreams," students were asked to share their dreams with someone during recess, lunch or after school; Friday - "Tiger Pride Day," wear spirit shirts. Students also received Red Ribbon Week bookmarks to celebrate the week and the book fair going on at the school.

Wyatt Elementary School
Daily dress-up themes were: "Together We Refuse to Use," wear
your favorite sports jersey; Tuesday - "Dream Big, Be Drug
Free," wear pajamas; Wednesday - "Put On Your Thinking
Caps," wear your favorite hat; Thursday - "Don't Be Crazy
About Drugs. Be Crazy About Your Hair," wear your hair in
a crazy style (pictured); and Friday - "Proud to be Drug Free," wear
red, white and blue.
Middle Schools
Carpenter Middle School
The week was kicked off at Carpenter Middle School with a performance by recording artist and education advocate, Brent Daniels. Daily themes: Monday - "Wear Red Day"; Tuesday - "Make An Education Choice," wear your favorite college shirt; Wednesday - "Shade Out Drugs," wear sunglasses; Thursday - "Crazy Hat Day," wear a hat/cap; Friday - "Sport a Drug Free Life," wear your favorite team jersey. Counselors read drug facts during the morning announcements and each student was given a "Freedom from Drugs" red bracelet to wear all week. On Friday, the counselors sponsored "Dead Day", where selected students represented students who have died as a result of drugs.
Haggard Middle School
Haggard Middle School was busy with Red Ribbon Week activities. Rick Hooker from Plano ISD's Drug Free and Safe School program visited with all students. He covered drug education, peer pressure, and how to make good choices. The STAND (Students Taking Action Not Drugs) sponsors helped students create a "Drug Free Chain" during lunch. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - wear red; Tuesday - wear a tie; Wednesday - wear crazy socks; Thursday - wear a hat; and Friday - wear slippers.
Hendrick Middle School
Hendrick Middle School students celebrated a united commitment to remain a drug free school. Daily themes: Monday - "Drugs Turn You Inside Out," wear your clothes inside out or backwards; Tuesday - "Shade Out Drugs," wear sunglasses; Wednesday - "Cap Off Drugs," wear your favorite hat/cap; Thursday - "Team Up Against Drugs," wear your favorite sports team jersey, and Friday - "Don't Get Yourself Into a Hairy Situation," crazy hair day. Prizes were awarded during each lunch period for students showing the most spirit in these categories.
Renner Middle School
The week kicked off with an assembly on Monday. From Tuesday through Friday, there was a car bash. Students bashed a real car with a sledge hammer symbolizing bashing out drugs and allowing students to see what a car might look like after a drunk driving accident. Daily themes: Tuesday - jersey day-wear your favorite team jersey; Wednesday - Dead day; Thursday - hat day-wear your favorite hat/cap, and Friday -wear red.
Rice Middle School
The students at Rice Middle School signed a drug free pledge on Monday. On Tuesday, a Motivational Promotions Assembly - Freedom Call was held sponsored by the Rice PTA. A crash car, provided by M.A.D.D.(Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) was on sight all day Thursday and students had the opportunity to see the car. Daily themes: Monday - "Slip Away From Drugs," wear your favorite slippers; Tuesday - "Go Goofy Against Drugs," wear goofy, mismatched clothes; Wednesday - "Shade Away From Drugs," wear your favorite sunglasses; Thursday - "Go Crazy for Being Drug Free," wear crazy socks, and Friday - "Team Up Against Drugs," or "Drugs Aren't Cool so Wear a Hat to School," wear your favorite team jersey or sports t-shirt and your favorite hat.
Robinson Middle School
The counselors at Robinson Middle School visited classrooms providing guidance to the students, and the students were encouraged to dress according to theme days. Daily themes: Monday - "Lei Off Drugs," wear your Hawaiian shirts; Tuesday - "School Spirit Day," wear Robinson spirit wear; Wednesday - "Drugs Give Me the Blues," wear blue; Thursday - "Wear Red Day," and Friday - "Join the Fight Against Drugs," wear your camouflage. The week ended by enjoying a catered pizza lunch sponsored by the Dad's club.
Schimelpfenig Middle School
Schimelpfenig Middle School stayed busy all week with Red Ribbon Week activities. An assembly was held on Tuesday called "Freedom Calls" which was a presentation to help students realize that being free is a matter of choice and that students need to protect their personal freedom by living their lives with conviction, courage and ambition. The motto for the week was, "Be Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Free." Daily dress-up themes: Monday - wear your favorite hat/cap; Tuesday -wear red; Wednesday - wear crazy socks; Thursday - wear slippers; and Friday - wear your favorite team/college jersey.
Wilson Middle School
On Monday during advisory, each student received a bracelet. Other activities for the week included an all student assembly, "The Totally Courageous Basketball Exhibition" with Steve Granata. Students cut out and personalized a cutout of their hand to take a pledge to be drug free throughout their lives. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Team up Against Drugs," wear team shirts; Tuesday - "My Spirit is So Bright, I've Got to Wear Shades," wear spirit wear and sunglasses; Wednesday - "Put a Lid On Drugs," wear a hat/cap; Thursday - "Don't Slip Into Drugs," wear slippers; and Friday - "United Against Drugs," wear red.
High Schools
Shepton High School
The week began with a Red Ribbon assembly on Monday for the whole student body. The guest speaker was Mr. Keith Davis, former professional football player for the New York Giants. Daily dress themes: Monday - "Play Away From Drugs," wear a college jersey; Tuesday - "Put A Cap on Drugs," wear your favorite hat; Wednesday - "Cowboy Up and Boot Drugs" - dress in western wear; Thursday - "Hugs Not Drugs," wear pajamas; and Friday - "Black Out Drugs," wear black.
Vines High School
Vines High School students participated in Red Ribbon Week activities. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Kick off Red Ribbon Week," wear red; Tuesday - "Put a Cap On Drugs," wear your favorite hat/cap; Wednesday
- "Hide In Time From Drugs," wear clothes from your favorite decade; Thursday - "V is for Victory Against Drugs," wear purple and white spirit wear; and Friday -"Keep Drugs Out" - wear maroon.
Williams High School
The students at Williams were asked to wear a different outfit each day to show their commitment to be drug free. On Wednesday, the student council wore black, couldn't talk, and wore signs telling what drug or alcohol-related incident "killed" them. Ribbons were attached to all student lockers to remind students about the danger of drugs and alcohol. Daily dress-up themes: Tuesday - "Sweat It Out," wear sweats; Wednesday - "Prove Drugs Are Crazy," wear crazy socks; Thursday - "Sports Not Snorts," wear your favorite team jersey; and Friday - wear Williams warrior shirt.
Senior High Schools
Plano West Senior High School
Students at Plano West Senior High were given wristbands, pencils, and stickers to remind them to be drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. On Thursday, a student-produced film called, "I've Been Caught" was shown documenting the possible consequences of drug and alcohol use The video showed a student who was caught at school with a substance and follows the student through the potential consequences of their action. Daily dress-up themes: Monday - "Kick off Red Ribbon Week," wear red; Tuesday - "Put a Cap On Drugs," wear your favorite hat/cap; Wednesday - "Don't Let Drugs Ruin Your Future," wear college spirit wear; Thursday - "the Life You Save Could Be Yours By Not Doing Drugs," wear your favorite superhero costume; and Friday -"Support Plano West, Don't Do Rugs " - wear your Plano West spirit wear.
