Administrative Appointments

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Otto announced several new 2008-09 administrative appointments at the May 20 and June 17 meetings of the Plano ISD Board of Trustees. He will also recommend to the board on August 5 the appointment of Jeff Gasaway to the position of Jasper High School principal.

Jeff Gasaway, Principal
Jasper High School

Dr. Doug Otto, superintendent of schools, announced on June 24 his recommendation of Jeff Gasaway as the principal at Jasper High School. Mr. Gasaway currently serves as the associate principal of student activities at Plano East Senior High School. Mr. Gasaway will be recommended to the Plano ISD Board of Trustees for their consideration at the August 5 regular meeting.
“I welcome Jeff as the principal at Jasper High School,” said Superintendent Doug Otto. “The Jasper community will be so pleased with Jeff’s leadership and his experience as an educator. He is a great fit for this campus and will serve the Jasper community well.”
Mr. Gasaway has been an employee of Plano ISD since joining the district in 1997 as a physical education teacher at Memorial Elementary. He also served as an athletic trainer and world history teacher at Plano East Senior High School before moving to Clark High School in 1999 as a world geography teacher and basketball/softball coach.
Mr. Gasaway began his administrative track of service at Clark High School as an intern in 2001 and became an assistant principal in 2003. He moved to the district’s human resources department as the director of compensation and records in 2004. Plano East Senior High School invited him to his current post as an associate principal in 2006.
“It will be a privilege to serve the Jasper High School community of students, staff and parents," said Mr. Gasaway. "I feel that each step in my career has prepared me for this moment, and I am ready to embrace this new opportunity. I couldn't be more excited to be the newest member of the Jasper family."
Mr. Gasaway attended Texas Tech University and earned a bachelor of science degree in 1996. He also studied at Texas A&M University in Commerce and earned a master of education in administration in 2003.

Larry Guinn Special Programs Center
Mike has spent 28 of the past 30 years as an educator in Plano schools, having taught at Clark High School and Haggard Middle School (1978-1984). He taught for two years at Sherman High School then returned to Plano to teach at Clark and serve as its dean of students. He later served as assistant principal at Williams, Shepton and Jasper high schools and Armstrong Middle School. Since 1999, he has served as associate principal of student activities at Plano West Senior High School.

Sheela Daniels, Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction
Plano East Senior High School
To be announced officially at the August 5 school board meeting is the appointment of Sheela Daniels as associate principal of curriculum and instruction at Plano East Senior High School. Assistant principal for curriculum at Clark High School since 2004, Ms. Daniels also served as administrative intern in 2003. Prior to her administrative duties, Ms. Daniels taught at both Clark High School and Renner Middle School. Before coming to Plano ISD in 1996, she taught in Lewisville ISD.
E. Randal Hayes, Associate Principal of Student Activities
Plano West Senior High School
An assistant principal at Plano West since 2004, Mr. Hayes has also served as administrative intern at Rice Middle School from 2002 to 2004. Prior to his administrative duties, Mr. Hayes taught at Schimelpfenig and Wilson middle schools and Jasper and Shepton high schools. Prior to joining Plano ISD in 1994, he taught at Angleton (TX) High School.

Associate Principal for Curriculum & Instruction
Plano West Senior High School
Shepton High School Assistant Principal Carl Herrmann has served 23 years with Plano schools as a teacher and assistant band director at Carpenter and Hendrick middle schools and Clark High School. He also served for seven years as district fine arts coordinator before joining the staff at Shepton.

Dwane Chappelle
Larry Guinn Special Programs Center
Mr. Chappelle has served as administrative intern at Clark High School since 2007, after serving in Richardson ISD as a secondary school administrative intern for one year and an elementary school teacher for two years. He has also served as a juvenile detention officer with the Dallas County Probation Department (2003 to Present) and as a probation counselor with the Contra Costa Probation Department in Martinez, California (1999 to 2003).
Patricia Hempstead
Jackson Elementary School
Ms. Hempstead will join the Plano ISD staff after teaching in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD's R.E. Good Elementary School for the past five years. She has also taught at Dallas ISD's Edward Titche Elementary School.
Debbie Ordonez
Daffron Elementary School
Ms. Ordonez has served as a teacher at Dooley Elementary School since 2004. Before joining the Plano ISD team, she served for three years as an elementary Spanish trainer/consultant for SRA-McGraw Hill Publishing Company and Region 10 Education Service Center. She has also taught at the Kimberlin Academy in Garland ISD and at James B. Bonham Elementary in Dallas ISD.
Alan Waligura
Shepton High School
An assistant principal at Plano Senior High School since 2007, Mr. Waligura served as an administrative intern at Shepton High School from 2005 to 2007, a teacher at Hickey Elementary School from 2002 to 2005 and a teacher/trainer at Plano East Senior High School and Barron Elementary School (now Barron Early Childhood School) from 2000 to 2002. He also served as teacher and head athletic trainer at the Polytechnic High School in Ft. Worth from 1998 to 2000.
Administrative Interns
Brenda Smith - Jasper High School
Ms. Smith has served as a teacher at Plano Senior High School since 2003, after serving for one year as an investigator with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, and a master's degree in education from Texas A&M Commerce.
Katie Brittain - Hendrick Middle School
Hendrick Middle School seventh grade teacher Kathryn “Katie” Brittain has taught at Hendrick since 2005. Prior to joining Plano schools, she taught in Park Hill School District for two years.
Mark Letterer - Haggard Middle School
For nearly a decade, Mark has taught ESL (English as a Second Language) students. Since 2005, he has instructed intermediate and advanced ESL students and ESL social studies students at Carpenter Middle School. He formerly taught ESL students in Mesquite ISD.
Head Basketball Coach

Plano Senior High School
Coach Parlin will serve as head basketball coach for the Plano Senior High School Wildcats. Coach Parlin has served as a teacher/coach since 1993 at Schimelpfenig and Haggard middle schools, Vines High School and Stinson Elementary School.
District Appointments
Student & Family Services Coordinators
James L. Thomas III
Guinn Special Programs Center Specialist James Thomas has been promoted to district coordinator for elementary summer school, district homeless liaison and support for schools regarding student management issues.
The grandson of James L. Thomas Elementary School’s namesake, he taught for 20 years at Wilson Middle School before joining the Guinn Center staff in 1999 as administrative intern.
Lynda Shuttlesworth
Lynda will coordinate the pre kindergarten through fifth grade guidance program and family education services.
Currently a counselor at Thomas Elementary School, she has also served as principal intern at Thomas, Wyatt, Davis, Shepard, Saigling, Aldridge and Carlisle elementary schools and as a counselor at Brinker and Forman elementary schools.
Prior to joining the Plano ISD staff, she served as an assistant principal, counselor and teacher in Oklahoma’s Jenks Public Schools and as a teacher in Tyler, Diboll and Pasadena school districts in Texas.
Employee Child Care Center Coordinator
Stacie Kaeuper, PASAR After-School Program zone leader, will serve as coordinator of the new Plano ISD Employee Child Care Center, which is opening August 18 at 3901 Pebble Creek Court (southeast corner of Coit Road and Spring Creek Parkway) in Plano.
An an educator in Plano ISD since the year 2000, Ms. Kaeuper has taught at Bethany and Wyatt elementary schools.
