Convocation 2007 ~ Graduate's Message
Sunaina
Suhag, 2007 Graduate of Plano Senior High School, shared inspiring words with Plano ISD's 7,000 employees
at Convocation 2007.
"The tables are turned...Now, I get to lecture you," she said with a grin. "After 13 years of education in Plano schools and 71 classes later, I think I'm qualified."
'We Watch and Learn from You'
The honor graduate, who will attend Austin College this fall, told employees there has been no better teaching tactic than "watch and learn." She said that she watched and learned from Plano ISD educators.
"What I will take with me for the rest of my life, Sunaina said, is:
- Compassion from my grade school janitor who cleaned up our messes with a smile;
- Perseverance from my high school English teacher. She became a big part of my life when I needed a mentor;
- Respect from my senior high school principal. He spoke to me like an adult. He made me strive to be a better person; and
- Patience from my high school counselors. They made me seem like their #1 priority, even when they had 400 more recommendation letters to write."
"My education in the Plano Independent School District was bigger than the Pythagorean Theorem and stalactites. It was a mix of experiences and relationships that will be with me forever." ~Sunaina Suhag
She continued, "When you open your first box of Expos or paper towels or detention slips, remember that every single one of you are teaching students even when you don't mean to."
Referencing Plano ISD's 2007-08 theme, she stated, "Being 'Mindful of Education' is not just helping students pass AP (Advanced Placement) tests, but to make them human beings you can be proud of, who can stand up to the pressures of the world with confidence.
"And all of you impact us every day."
